There are many avenues to seek advice, information and support about issues related to your work and balancing your family responsibilities.
Here’s a list of possible supports and networks to help you:
For advice and support about work related issues
If you need to find out about your rights at work contact:
- JobWatch
JobWatch is an employment rights legal centre which provides assistance to Victorian workers with their rights at work. A free telephone information and referral service is available, as well as community legal education and representation and assistance for disadvantaged workers. - Workplace Authority
The Workplace Authority provides free advice and information on Australia's workplace relations system, including information about wages and conditions.
You could also contact your union:
- The Australian Council of Trade Unions
The ACTU is the peak union body. You can contact them if you're not sure what union you need to join for the industry you work in. Unions assist workers by giving them a voice. They can also help to gain better pay, improved living standards, safe working environments and employment security, through collective bargaining in the workplace.

- Workforce Victoria
The Working Families Program provides information about balancing work and family and highlights industry case studies where these arrangements are working. - Work Life Balance Association
The Work Life Balance Association helps the business community to create and optimize flexible work options for their employees.
For support and advice about parenting and caring
If you’re a parent you can contact:
- Parentline
Parentline is a telephone information and referral service for parents and carers with children from birth to 18 years. Parentline is a confidential and anonymous service. The qualified staff are there to help you with a range of issues from settling, feeding and tantrums to separation and family violence.

The Infoxchange Service Seeker contains updated details on government and non-government child care services and agencies around Australia.
Extra support for single parents:
- The Council of Single Mothers and their Children Victoria is a support service run for single mums and their children.
If you live in a rural area you can contact:
- Rural Women's Network
The Rural Women's Network is informal. You can become involved in many different ways, for example by subscribing or contributing to the network newsletter, reading about regional events and forums and providing feedback about rural women's issues.
If you’re a carer you can contact:
- Carers Victoria
Carers Victoria is the state-wide voice for family carers, representing and providing support to carers in the community. - Victorian Carer Services Network
The aim of the Victorian Carer Services Network is to provide information, carer support and respite co-ordination for carers. These ten services together with Carer Resource Centre and Carers Victoria form the Victorian Carer Services Network. - The Carers Network
The Carers Network is the Victorian peak body of organisations and individuals that support carers of people with a mental illness. It is made up of: carers or former carers linked with carer groups, representatives of state-wide carer organisations with a significant carer focus, workers from carer support programs.
